This consulting service provides districts with itinerant services for students with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Other Health Impairments (OHI) and Orthopedic Impairments (OI), which meet their unique physical, health, and educational needs in the least restrictive environment.

The CESA 6 consultant is available to assist in:

    • Evaluation
    • IEP Development
    • Inservice training
    • Provide on-going support to the student and school staff

Several times throughout the school year every district is faced with programming for students with multiple and complex needs. The district often seeks an individual with recent and extensive knowledge and experience in a child's specific disability area.

The consultant can assist your staff to transition the student from the hospital back to school. This person can also provide an evaluation of the student and assist in development of an appropriate IEP. They may coordinate communication with outside providers and provide inservice presentation for both students and staff.

Students who are experiencing difficulty academically, socially, or behaviorally, due to a specific health impairment such as a seizure disorder, leukemia, Tourettes Syndrome, cardiac conditions, etc. may benefit from OHI consultation. In addition to evaluation and IEP development, the OHI consultant may be able to assist in interpreting the impact of a student's medical condition on their ability to successfully function in school. This person may serve as the liaison between education, medical and rehabilitation agencies, home and community to help ensure continuity of services.

Students who have orthopedic impairments such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, which adversely affect their performance in school benefit from services of the OI consultant. This may also include evaluation, IEP development, assistive technology information, school building accessibility studies, environmental modifications, and teaching strategies to accommodate the student's physical disability.
