Directors of Special Education create dynamic solutions to develop effective programming for and supervision of all aspects of special education programs. Primary responsibilities include:
- leading the school district in effective implementation of quality programming for students with disabilities and ensure due process compliance
- serving as liaison between the district and families, the department of public instruction, the community, and various other agencies
- serving as an integral member of the local district’s administrative team
- keeping up-to-date on educational initiatives, legal requirements, processes, and procedures
- working collaboratively with local personnel to ensure overall quality programming for all students
- working with educators to promote effective, research-based instructional practices, which maximize student learning
