CESA 6 facilitates the Regional Spelling Bee for the school districts within its region. The location for the three Regional Spelling Bees is shared among the districts on a rotating basis. Regional Champions participate in the state competition.
The Badger State Spelling Bee was initiated in 1949 and is currently sponsored by the Wisconsin State Journal. Contestants range from grades five through grade eight and must not have reached sixteen years of age before the date of the National Spelling Bee for that school year. Students compete at the school level and in regional bees. One champion from each regional bee moves on to the State Spelling Bee. The champion of the State Bee then advances to the National Spelling Bee. The National Spelling Bee is sponsored by the E.W. Scripps Company. The National Spelling Bee has been in existence since 1925.
