-
The Fox River Valley Alternative School follows a traditional school-year calendar.
-
Instruction is presented in a variety of formats (i.e. computer assisted, self-study packets, conventional textbooks) to accommodate multiple student learning styles.
-
Students work independently and at their own pace, consistent with making adequate progress toward graduation.
-
Students completing all requirements for graduation receive a diploma from their home high school.
-
Participating school districts include Appleton, Hortonville, Little Chute, Menasha, Neenah, and New London.
PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS:
Attendance:
-
Students are expected to maintain a 90% attendance level. Excused absences may be made up; unexcused absences may not. Any absence counts against overall attendance percentage.
-
Failure to maintain the 90% attendance requirement results in the student being placed on probation. Repeated violations of the attendance requirement may result in the student being dismissed from the program.
Academics:
-
Students may earn up to five (5) academic credits and one (1) work experience credit each semester. This allows students to catch up on credits with the objective of graduating on time.
-
Course credit is awarded on a Pass basis (not letter grades). Students are expected to maintain academic proficiency of at least 90%. Remediation and review of material are permitted until at least 90% proficiency is achieved.
-
Students earn credits required by their home high school for graduation.
Behavior and Discipline:
-
The Fox River Valley Alternative School maintains high, clearly defined behavioral expectations. Students must respect the right of other students to learn in an undisturbed manner in a safe environment.
-
Repeated failure to meet behavior requirements may result in the student being dismissed from the Fox River Valley Alternative School.
Work Experience:
-
Maintaining employment or completing volunteer activities outside of class time is a requirement of enrollment in the program.
-
A student may hold a job of his/her choice. The Fox River Valley Alternative School Work Coordinator can assist students in finding employment, if needed.
-
Each semester, a student may earn .5 credit for 180 hours of documented work time and 1.0 credit for 360 documented hours.
-
Part of the Fox River Valley Alternative School curriculum focuses on preparing students for entry into the work force after graduation. These Life Skills courses focus on job application techniques, career exposure, daily living skills, communication, problem solving, decision-making, conflict management, team building, and motivation.
-
Failure to hold a job or do volunteer work may result in the student being dismissed from the program.
