1. By what criterion and what processes are students referred to and accepted for the Fox River Valley Alternative School (FRVAS) program?
| |
Students referred to FRVAS are "at-risk" of not graduating with their classmates. This may be the result of any of a variety of intervening factors, such as truancy, behavior issues, difficulty fitting in or learning in a traditional classroom, etc. |
| |
Once referred to FRVAS by the home high school, the student and his/her guardian attend an intake interview with FRVAS staff to inform the student of School policies and expectations and to mutually determine appropriateness of placement. |
2. What is the home-high school enrollment status of students enrolled in FRVAS?
| |
Students enrolled in FRVAS maintain enrollment in their home high school along with opportunities, such as enrollment in classes at the home high school and extra curricular participation, commensurate with good standing. |
3. Do students enrolled in FRVAS typically work toward a traditional high school diploma (...granted by whom?), or a GED, or an HSED?
| |
All students enrolled in FRVAS work toward a traditional high school diploma, granted by the home high school. |
4. Describe a typical student-day for a student enrolled in FRVAS.
| |
A student enrolled in FRVAS attends one of two three-hour sessions, Monday through Friday. The student works independently on assigned course work in a professional, office-like setting. Except for a five-minute, mid-session break, students are required to work productively for the full three-hour session. |
5. To what additional requirements, beyond the academic day, are students enrolled in FRVAS held (e.g. employment, etc.)?
| |
Students enrolled in FRVAS are required to maintain employment or to volunteer in approved experiences as a condition of enrollment. |
| |
Students working 180 hours within a semester earn one-half (0.5) credit towards graduation; those working 360 hours within a semester earn one (1.0) credit. |
6. What is the cost-to-district per credit earned (...per graduate)?
| |
School districts contract for student slots with FRVAS at a per-slot fee. A student may earn up to six credits in a semester. However, if the district selects students creatively, more than one student may be served during a semester with one slot. |
7. Who develops the FRVAS curriculum, and to what standards?
| |
FRVAS curriculum is developed by FRVAS, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, content area certified instructors. |
|
The curriculum is developed to reflect Wisconsin State Model Academic Standards, as well as to meet the individual educational needs of FRVAS students. |
8. What are the credentials/certifications of all staff at FRVAS?
| |
Each FRVAS staff member is Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, content area certified. |
9. What is the success rate for students enrolled in FRVAS?
| |
Academic years 2002-2006 saw about 94% of those eligible FRVAS graduate. |
|
Many of those who do not graduate the year they are eligible have finished their requirements the following academic year. |
10. What is the profile of a student entering FRVAS?
| |
Students referred to FRVAS are "at-risk" of not graduating with their classmates. This may be the result of any of a variety of intervening factors, such as truancy, behavior issues, difficulty fitting in or learning in a traditional classroom, etc. |
11. Under whose direct jurisdiction (e.g. district, CESA, DPI, etc.) does FRVAS operate?

|
Annually, FRVAS reports extensively to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. |
12. What reporting requirements exist for FRVAS?
