Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards Training
March 10 & March 24, 2012
Presenter: Bridget Cullen

The Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards specify developmental expectations for children upon kindergarten completion. This workshop introduces the Standards and uses the teaching cycle of assessment, planning, and implementation to support early care and education teachers in a variety of settings in implementing developmentally appropriate practices. The workshop provides an overview of the developmental domains through case study, video based observation, and reflection. Participants increase their awareness of the state and national context of early learning standards and their application and relationship to community school, child care, and Head Start programs

Differentiating Reading Instruction

Presenter: Cornerstone Productions

During this two-day training, students will be guided through a creative process that helps them build performance skills, bond as a team, and create moving, entertaining skits designed to be presented in your schools and community. They will learn the basics of building a character, improvising short scenes, and effectively staging them.
 

Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder Including Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism

The first in a three workshop series that targets all aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder. This workshop was developed as a foundation workshop to thoroughly explore the features and characteristics that comprise Autism Spectrum Disorder including Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism.
 

Intervention Strategies for Struggling Readers and Writers for Grades 3-8

Student Achievement in High Poverty Schools

CESA 6 is hosting an opportunity for school districts to acquire new knowledge and ideas connected to increasing student achievement. These Title I schools located in Fond du Lac, Appleton, and Oshkosh are identified as Spotlight Schools. Spotlight Schools were selected based on the school's documented success in two spotlighted areas including Teaching and Learning and one of the following: Vision, Leadership and Governance, Decision Making and Accountability, Professional Development and Teacher Quality, and Family, School, and Community Partnerships. CCSS: How Classroom Teachers Can Begin to Make Changes in Content: Using Doug Fisher's Secondary Model

Writing for Emergent Readers
February 9, 2012
Presenter: Karen Stindt, MS OTR ATP

This workshop will explore and provide hands on time with several easy to use computer programs that are for teacher and student use to facilitate engaging curriculum based literacy and writing activities. These programs allow the teacher to make modified activities for their students to use both on and off the computer. For students that cannot read and write independently, the use of picture based activities allows them to both read and write. Using these approaches help bridge the gap into regular education and facilitates inclusion actives by allowing the student to more easily participate in the regular curriculum.
 

Educational Programming and Instructional Strategies for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder

This is the second in a series of three workshops that covers all aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder including Asperger Syndrome. This workshop will provide participants with a "best practice" approach for designing and implementing appropriate educations programs for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Social Relation Skills and Strategies for Students with High Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome K-12
March 6, 2012
Presenter: Susan Stokes

This is the third workshop in the Autism series. This training will provide participants with an in-depth focus on the primary area of difficulty for people with ASD, social relation skills. Particular focus will be given to "social understanding" Numerous tools and resources will be provided.
 

Literacy Link: A Multi-Sensory Approach to Sound
March 6-7, 2012
Presenter: Peggy Northrup

This course will present a kinesthetic, hands-on approach for bridging the gap between phonological awareness, reading and written language. Attendees will learn specific hand symbols for consonants and vowels that will assist in teaching rhyme, alphabetic code, sound-symbol relationships, phoneme segmentation and blending. Attendees will also gain an understanding of the phonological awareness continuum and which activities should be taught when. Attendees will learn many songs and over 50 phonological awareness activities that can be implemented immediately into the classroom with any language arts curriculum. Phonological Awareness Assessment will also be covered. The children will love this method of teaching literacy.

We've Got the Data: Now What?? Using Formative Assessment to Tier Writing Activities and Address Learner Readiness at RtI Tier I

Goals: To enable teachers to gather a repertoire of quick formative assessments in order to take multiple measures of student understanding on a daily basis; To demonstrate formative assessments that support Tier 1 RtI and the tracking of at-risk learners in the general education classroom; To show teachers how to use formative assessment to plan tiered instruction, i.e. one concept taught at 2-3 levels of complexity at the same time.
