Literacy Link: A Multi-Sensory Approach to Sound
March 6 & 7, 2012
Presenter: Peggy Northrup
This course will present a kinesthetic, hands-on approach for bridging
the gap between phonological awareness, reading and written language. Attendees
will learn specific hand symbols for consonants and vowels that will assist in
teaching rhyme, alphabetic code, sound-symbol relationships, phoneme
segmentation and blending.

Writing for Emergent Readers

This workshop will explore and provide hands on time with several easy
to use computer programs that are for teacher and student use to
facilitate engaging curriculum based literacy and writing activities.
These programs allow the teacher to make modified activities for their
students to use both on and off the computer. For students that cannot
read and write independently, the use of picture based activities allows
them to both read and write. Using these approaches help bridge the gap
into regular education and facilitates inclusion actives by allowing
the student to more easily participate in the regular curriculum.

with the written word and foreign languages are also available. The program
allows you to make professional looking communication displays or schedules in
minutes. The workshop will also highlight intervention techniques to
incorporate the communication symbols into literacy, play and social skill
activities.
